Variety is the spice of life
Children need a variety of activities that are fun and suit their interests, skills and abilities. Mixing it up helps prevent boredom and results in a range of health benefits, experiences and challenges. The types of physical activities can vary from free play to structured sports. Include a mixture of moderate and vigorous activities. Moderate activities include things like bike riding, climbing and other active play. Vigorous activities that get your child's heart pumping are things like swimming, running and dancing; and team sports like netball, soccer and football for older children.
